宮崎駿（みやざき はやお、1941年1月5日生）は日本のアニメーション映画監督・漫画家。スタジオジブリ共同創設者。「千と千尋の神隠し」で2003年アカデミー賞最優秀長編アニメ映画賞受賞。2014年アカデミー名誉賞受賞。「となりのトトロ」「もののけ姫」「風立ちぬ」など世界70カ国以上で公開された名作を生み出した。
Hayao Miyazaki (born January 5, 1941 in Bunkyo, Tokyo) is a Japanese animation film director and manga artist. He began his career as an animator at Toei Animation, working alongside director Isao Takahata on productions including “Heidi, Girl of the Alps” (1974), “3000 Leagues in Search of Mother” (1976), and the landmark television series “Future Boy Conan” (1978). In 1984 he established himself as a solo feature director with “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.”
In 1985, Miyazaki and Takahata co-founded Studio Ghibli. The films he directed there — “My Neighbor Totoro” (1988), “Kiki’s Delivery Service” (1989), “Princess Mononoke” (1997), “Spirited Away” (2001), “Howl’s Moving Castle” (2004), “Ponyo” (2008), “The Wind Rises” (2013), and “The Boy and the Heron” (2023) — have been released in over 70 countries. “Spirited Away” won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2003, the first Japanese film ever to receive the honor. Miyazaki was presented the Academy Honorary Award (Governors Award) in 2014.
In 2005, he received the Honorary Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice International Film Festival (62nd edition), becoming only the second Japanese recipient after Akira Kurosawa. After announcing his retirement in 2013, he returned to direct “The Boy and the Heron” (2023), which had its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2024. His works, which explore nature, environmentalism, pacifism, and human growth, continue to move audiences across generations and cultures worldwide.
